S5E19 - Ep 111: Retro Toy Lines (w/ Greenie)

Nintenjoe takes use back through some of our favorite toy lines with the help of our guest Greenie, who brought Barbie and Living Dead Dolls!

On another toy-centric episode of the Retro Ridoctopus cephalopodcast, Nintenjoe takes the reins as we present some of our favorite Retro Toy Lines. Here we aren't just spotlighting one or two toys, but the entire lines as a whole.

Along for the ride is "Mrs. Alchemy", Steph, AKA "Green Witch Of The North", AKA "GREENIE", in her first appearance on the show! She adds an incredibly valuable voice to the discussion, talking passionately about toys that none of us ever had!

And as always, we have the Octoponder, this week's B-Segment (from 8-Bit Alchemy) and if you make it all the way to the end, a very important announcement regarding the future of the podcast.

S5E18 - Ep 110: Dissecting the Alien Franchise (w/ podcaster El Goro)

An entire chest bursting episode devoted to the celebration and analysis of all 6 Alien films!

In space, no one can hear you scream... ...but this is only a podcast, so you don't have to worry about that.

With the help of Xenomorph-superfan and movie-dissecting guru, El Goro (from the Talk Without Rhythm Podcast), we're going to spill the ovomorphs on the entire Alien franchise! Starting with Ridley Scott's horror sci-fi masterpiece ALIEN (1979) and going all the way through ALIEN: COVENANT (2017).

Truly, this episode is the perfect organism.

Listen to El Goro every week on the TALK WITHOUT RHYTHM PODCAST!

S5E17 - Ep 109: BANG! SPOOF! It's Parody Superheroes!

We spotlight parody superhero characters that carried their own property as well as ones that are intened to be fictions within fiction.

In every medium where superheroes exist, there are characters that spoof the genre. Some, (like the Tick), carry their own parody comics & shows. But others exist within the world of their property (as a show within a show) where these meta heroes are enjoyed by the already fictional characters of that property (like Radioactive Man is to Bart Simpson). So, up and atom, gentle listener, because in this episode, we gonna cover it all!

Crammed in between is an Octoponders where we ask you to get creative and come up with a parody superhero of your own! And later on, Parasite Steve covers the ninja-tastic Cyber Shadow on another installment of Retro Nouveau.

S5E16 - Ep 108: The Super Nintendo Turns 32

For the 32nd birthday of the SNES, we go through some of the history, specs and games that make it one of our favorite gaming consoles of all time!

If you already feel old, how does it feel to know that the Super Nintendo came out 32 years ago?

For many of us, the 90s were defined by the 16-bit generation of video games. The successor to the enormously successful Nintendo Entertainment System was of course the good old SNES. A system that would push the envelopes the look, sound and overall experience of what a home video game could be, and go on to become a legend in it's own right.

For this episode, we cover some of the history, the technical specs (what was MODE 7 anyway?) and, of course, some of our favorite games! Expect some obvious classics as well as some deep cuts because your Octo-Hosts are huge fans of the good old SNES!

Later on, we'll get to this week's Octo-Ponder as well as a little COMPOSE YO'SELF from 8bit (or should we say 16bit) Alchemy!

Crow's Nest: Capcom VS Marvel VS Street Fighter

A chronological tribute to the first 6 of Capcom's Marvel fighting games, starting with X-Men: Children of the Atom!

This is a supplemental Crow's Nest to "Ep 107: Gaming the Marvel Way (with Ian Wallace)". In that episode we went through enough Marvel video games to fill a Danger Room, but there were some glaring omissions...

Righting the chief of those wrongs, we decided to celebrate the first 6 (all the sprite based ones) Capcom Marvel fighters! We start with the Children of the Atom and end with a New Age of Heroes, citing each game's unique mechanics as well as playable, non-playable and secret unlockable characters!

The Brig: Stephen Lomer Gets "Punked" (with the cast of PNN)

Our guest is the multi-talented Stephen Lomer, author of Typosquad novels and producer and star of the Parody News Network. He came on thinking the entire episode was going to be about him... he was mistaken.

Stephen Lomer is many things. Aside from being a pal, he's an Amazon Best Selling author, as well as a talented actor, producer and screenwriter!

For his first appearance in the BRIG, we decided to do something a little different, by getting 4 cast members of his YouTube show The Parody News Network to appear throughout and kind of gum up the works! Much to Stephen's chagrin, Killarney Traynor, Christa D. Terry, Tim Baird and Teresa Lomer all join in on the fun!

Retro Ridoctopus has never attempted anything like this before and is not likely to again so please, sit back and enjoy the chaos. The interruptions may be scripted, but Stephen's bewildered reactions are 100% genuine! When he admits that he has no idea what's going on... he aint kiddin!

Check out Stephen Lomer's official website! And browse his popular novels and short story collections on Amazon!

Also... don't miss Teresa Lomer's next stand-up gig at the Burren in Somerville on August 23rd!

Along for this jam-packed journey, all the way from Amalga-Mania, is the Boy Wonderful himself, Ian Wallace--whose valuable voice and endless expertise may prove more valuable than a fistful of infinity gems! Crow's Nest: Our Favorite Marvan (behind the scenes with Andrew Parks)

We had a little too much fun with Andrew Parks when he was in the BRIG including this bonus preamble that just didn't fit anywhere else!!

We hope you enjoy this supplemental mini-episode! This was taken from the unpublished pre-interview from our recent BRIG with veteran actor Andrew Parks!

Not only do you get about 20 minutes of more Andy, you'll be "treated" to some unedited behind the scenes stuff for the podcast itself. Retro Ridoctopus has never published anything like this before and we hope you all dig it!

The Brig: Foreheads Are Better Than None (with actor Andrew Parks)

Best known for the hilarious "Trail of the Screaming Forehead" & "The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra", Andrew Parks has been in the movie business for over 60 years & has the stories to prove it!

We've been huge fans of Andrew Parks, ever since seeing his unforgettable turn as the alien Kro-Bar in Larry Blamire's THE LOST SKELETON OF CADAVRA (2001). It was an incredible privilege to be able to hang out and chat about his extensive career in movies and television!

You'll hear stories about Jimmy Stewart, Angela Landsbury, Jim Beaver and frequent collaborator (not to mention two time BRIG inhabitant), Larry Blamire! We also talk extensively about such irreverent Blamire classics as DARK AND STORMY NIGHT (2009) and of course, TRAIL OF THE SCREAMING FOREHEAD (2007)!
